Lynn's Coming Home, Price Rollbacks, and CAKE!

Lynn's coming home!  My college freshman (or is it freshwoman?) will be home December 16th and has promised to make us a cake for our Saturday get together on the 18th.  Take a break from your holiday frenzy to stop by for stories from college, a well deserved break, and yes - CAKE!

Price Roll Back - The price of our Oregon Collection fingering weight yarns has been reduced:
    Superwash Merino/Tencel was $17.50 now $14.00 for 4 oz 412yds
      Superwash Wool/Nylon was $15.50 now $12.50 for 4 oz 434 yds

Remember your fiber friends with a Gift Certificate to Baabaara's Wild & Wooly.  Available in any amount.

Schedule Change - We will be closed December 24th-Jan1st to spend time with family.  Call ahead shopping is available as long as I'm in town.

Sheep to Batt workshop - Friday Jan 28th 10am-2pm - $25
No this is not a form of "Vampirism".  I will be demonstrating the "Wild & Wooly" way to get that fabulous fleece you purchased last summer from the stinky bag to a usable  batt.  We will be using one of my fleeces to learn how to skirt, wash, pick, and card.  You will leave with 1/2 pound of fiber prepared by you to your specifications. Reservation required.

Last but not least - a note from Amy with Sublime Accents
Just a reminder about the Gossamer Holiday Indie Craft Loft this
weekend.  It is at Gossamer The Knitting Place in the upper Old Mill
on SW Industrial Way.  Saturday 10am - 7pm and Sunday 10am - 5pm.  I
will be on the second floor right after you come up the stairs so if
you are out and about on either of those days come by and say hi!

Happy Thanksgiving!

One last reminder - Baabaara's Wild & Wooly, Inc will be closed November 24th-28th to spend time with family.
New Products:
Pencil Roving from Imperial Stock Ranch.  This roving may be used to knit soft garments or felt intricate designs into your projects.  This is a locally grown fiber from Columbia sheep raised on a sustainable ranch with a long history of doing it right.
"The Intentional Spinner" by Judith MacKenzie McCuin.  This book is a must for spinners new and old (I measure by experience not age).  Not only does it educate in all things fiber with insightful pictures and vibrant history, it comes with an instructional DVD!
Easy Felt Scarf Kit.  This wet felt kit is a great way to get your feet (or in this case hands) wet so to speak.  For those of us with little patience and time, both young and old can find success with this one.  Comes with 2 colors of Kool-Aid to dye your own finished scarf.
New Needle Felt Kits from Kelly Riley.  If you missed out on Kelly's recent needle felting class, don't despair.  Her kits come with all you need to create whimsical sculptures.

Last but not least -A message from Shirly-
I have too many sheep--what's new.  I have a lovely colored Romney ram lamb for sale.  His 8-month fleece is 7" staple length, gray on the skin and reddish-brown on the tips.  By far the heaviest lamb fleece I've ever had.  I could also get rid of some bred Romney ewes, and maybe one of the NZ Romney ram lambs.  I don't have enough hay or room, so we could talk.

Get Spun was Awesome

So, a few days late is better than never, right?

Last Saturday Symeon North came out to play with fiber with us as Wild 'N Wooly Farms. She showed us some wonderful techniques like how to spin locks into the yarn as we go, and how to do thick and thin yarns. The techniques are outlined in the book "Get Spun" released by Interweave in early May 2010. You can get your own copy at Sheep2Shawl.net. Here were some of the photo highlights from the afternoon!

Symeon is spinning locks into her yarn here, she is using a Ladybug wheel, not her usual, but she said it worked fairly well, not getting caught too much on the locks.

Here is everyone spinning together, Symeon is over in the right showing us how to spin in a thick and thin style. This looks so easy when she does it, and she is a great teacher.

These are all the products and projects from the book, unfortunately, many of the items that Symeon spent her time and energy on were cut from the book. So check them out here!

Lynn did up these great cakes, the looked as great as the tasted...mmmmm
