Fiber Retreat Weekend!

Classes & Events at a glance

Schedule deviation - We will be closed Saturday October 29th (still open Friday the 28th)

Spin-In Saturdays - 12-? Come join us for food, friendship, and inspiration.  Don't Spin?  No worries, we also knit, crochet, needle felt, sit and gab, etc.

First Annual Wild & Wooly Sleepover & Fiber Retreat - October 14th-16th  (Day trippers welcome)

Nuno Felt Scarf, With Liz - October 22nd 10-2pm - $40 + Materials

Fiber Retreat October 14-16 (or any time you want to drop on in)
To me, a "retreat" means a time to get away, relax, and refresh by only doing what you want, when you want.  That said, the only activity that will be scheduled is the Duct Tape Dress Form making for 2pm Saturday October 15th

Materials:
Approximately two 60 foot rolls of duct tape
Old t-shirt that reaches past your hips (one that you are willing to not get back)
Plastic wrap (enough to wrap around your neck)
Old scissors
Sturdy hanger
Fiberfill (at least one 20 ounce bag for an average female body)
or re-purpose plastic grocery bags or other stuff.
Permanent marker
Large Piece of cardboard (to cover bottom of form)
A willing helper
A tasty beverage
If you would like to make one, bring the above (tasty beverage & willing helper will be provided).
PS. Sarah says she has a lot of fun colored duct tape we can use also.

Sleeping arrangements - All my proper beds are spoken for, but there is still plenty of floor space for air mattresses and sleeping bags.
Meals - I will provide continental breakfast (muffins, toast, fruit, yogurt, toaster waffles, juice, coffee, etc).  The rest will be potluck meals/beverages so just bring something to share and keep in mind you will be taking any leftovers home with you as I am no longer feeding teenagers!
Movies - In my experience, most sleepovers include movies.  If you would like to bring a movie to share, I have both DVD & VHS in the living room as well as Netflix streaming.
Dye station will be open outside but the weather is not supposed to be real nice so plan accordingly.

Nuno Felt Scarf - Scarves are in and make great gifts!  According to my sources, Nuno is a Japanese word that means fabric.  This technique used to make fabric, involves laminating fiber over a silk core.  The silk provides a sturdy base and fabulous texture as the wool felts on and through it. No experience or skills needed.

Coming in November:
Locker hooking with roving
Felt pottery

Hope to see Ewe's Soon!

Just a Reminder!

Just a reminder.....This weekend September 23rd-25th is O.F.F.F. in Canby Oregon!  Unfortunately I will not be there.  Instead, I will be helping my Duckling & Viking Princess to settle in at their perspective colleges (or if they don't need me, playing at the lake!).  So have fun and we'll be back to our regular schedule (Friday-Sat 10-4 for drop in shopping; call ahead and internet shopping anytime) as of September 30th.

Fiber Retreat Sleepover update - October 14th-16th - This will be a no fee, potluck type gathering. Come for the day/evening or treat yourself to a weekend away.  I still have 1 full size bed (single occupancy) and a couple of Futons open for overnight reservation.  Any interest in making Duct tape dress forms?  Let me know and I'll get a materials list.

Hope to see Ewe's Soon!

Felt-A-Long

Felt-Along reminder-
When:  Friday, July 22nd, 10am-?
Where:  All Ways Wild & Wooly (see website for map www.sheep2shawl.net)
What to bring:  Fiber (also available to purchase), creativity, elbow grease, and anything else you want.
I will provide:  Hot soapy water, towels, tables, bubble wrap, pvc pipes, microwave
The drum carder will also be available for do it yourself custom blending for washed fiber only on a first come first serve basis.

Now for some sad news.  If you believe that ignorance is bliss, skip this paragraph.  For the last 3 weeks, I have had the pleasure of raising a little cottontail that my dog brought to me.  The "Pipster" has been thriving and actually tripled in size.  In order to provide the growing bunny with exercise and mental stimulation, a bathroom has been provided as a play area because Pipster is afraid the play in our outside pen and just hides and shakes.  Last night Pipster decided to go for a swim in the toilet without a lifeguard.  It has been a sad morning for me, but what can I do.  Beat myself up for not closing the lid?  Been there, done that, ready to move on.  Sorry for the sad news, but I think we have to take the bad with the good and make the most of it all as learning opportunities.

Hope to see Ewe's soon!

Whoops, almost forgot...

Oops!  I forgot one of the most important notices!
Anyone planning on entering fiber art at the Deschutes County Fair -
The deadline is July 15th - HOWEVER - YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ADMITTANCE TO THE FAIRGROUNDS ON THE 15TH DUE TO THE RV EVENT!
So get your entries in early!
Thanks Shirly for the heads up.

Happy Summer! (FINALLY)

I'll keep this short as I'm short on sleep while raising yet another bottle baby.  This one was brought to me as a squeak toy found by our dog Hope.  Thankfully Hope is very gentle and the baby bunny is thriving!  I have to stress - NEVER TRY TO RAISE A WILD RABBIT UNLESS THERE IS NO OTHER OPTION - their chances are slim to none of living.  I know!  This is not my first try.

Dye Along - Friday July 8th - 10am-2pm(or so) - $5 to use my dyes
This is not a class, but beginners are welcome!  Come, watch, learn, try!  It can be intimidating, but easier with friends to help and an outside dye area to avoid costly accidents with the carpet, sink, hardwood floor, dog, etc.  There is still room!  Drop me a line or just drop in to watch and wait for a spot to open up when and if you're ready.  10% off all dyable fiber.

Felt Along - Friday July 22nd 10am-2pm(or so) - Free
Once again, not a class.  Just an opportunity to use someone else's hot water, soap, towels, and large table.  Beginners welcome to see how it's done by the experts, and not so experts.  I have a few spots open on the tables, or just drop in and watch different techniques.  10% off all feltable fiber.

Spin-In - Saturday July 30th 12-2pm(or so) - refreshments served.

Quilt show week - With the exception of Wednesday, I'll be around most of the week.  Just give me a call so I can turn on the lights and secure any roaming animals.

The Pipster (new baby bunny) and crew hope to see ewe's soon!

Diva!

Well I had hoped to report that we were finished lambing.  But, alas............I think Latte has decided to stay pregnant indefinitely.

I am happy to report that Princess-Diva lamb, Siera, who wouldn't walk through the grass if it was wet, has been successfully transitioned to the field/barn.  She does insist on room service every 3-4 hours.

I should have a class schedule with my next e-mail, but for now......

"Special Offer" - I go behind bars this Thurs. for Muscular Dystrophy, but am no where near what I need for bail!  So, to sweeten the deal, I am offering a 20% savings off your next purchase (excluding spinning wheels & classes) if you can donate $10 or more.  Just click here to make a secure, online donation before 04/14/11. This is a fun event benefiting individuals and families served by MDA who are affected by neuromuscular disease. I am honored to partner with MDA, and help this important cause.

Lambing Saga Continues!

We're up to 10 lambs!  One ewe to go!
Once again, here's a link to view new pictures.  Just scroll down to see the newest ones.  www.sheep2shawl.net/gpage3.html

I don't think we've ever had this many lambs in such a short time.  Commercial flocks probably have that many lambs in an hour, but for small apples like us, it's hard to keep up with.  After Sierra, Sandi, Jackie, and Jenna were born last Friday (early AM, like middle of the night AM); Mary had a little lamb early Saturday morning.  This would be Shilo who needed a lactation consultant but once we got that straightened out is a strapping young lady.  Then Buttercup gave birth to her expected triplets.  They weren't crazy about coming out and Monte had to go in and get them.  All three were up and nursing no problem and mom has the milk and experience take care of them all.  However, Buttercup then developed a fever.  Not good!  I am happy to report that after a few days of penicillin she's back to her old sturdy self.  Thank you Lord!  I don't need 3 more house lambs!

So far, the lambing award would have to go to Lady Lu who delivered twins around 2pm Monday.  Yes, I said PM not AM.  It was a mild day and she delivered out in one of the sheds (no mess in the barn), without help, and the babies were up and nursing on their own without any sort of lactation guidance.  Welcome Jermain & Janel.
Hopefully Latte learned from Lady Lu and we'll end with a drama free lambing.

The Siera Saga cont.........She slept for 6 hours last night!  This little angel now sleeps in a cardboard box next to our bed at night.  She is quite fond of her box and it also doubles as a car seat for those trips to town.  Amazing what a difference sleeping in your own bed makes.  She is learning so much each day; such as what plastic bags taste and sound like, what cardboard tastes and sounds like, what electric cords taste like and thank goodness she has no teeth yet.  She has learned that while her dog Hope makes a great climbing toy, Sadie does not.  Lama's are fun to run and play with, but Sarah the hair sheep is not.  Following mom around all day is monotonous and it's exciting when her boy and her dad get home.  She also likes going in to dad's office for lunch so mom can run a few errands and she can entertain everyone there.  Today we'll be spending most of our time outside and hopefully she can make some new friends her own age and size.  The goal would be to have her living with these new friends in the barn.  This diaper changing is getting old real fast.  I'm also not sure how the MDA would feel about me taking her behind bars when I go.  That leads me to my last order of business for now...................

HELP!  I STILL NEED BAIL MONEY!  The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a great cause and ,because of my love for children, very close to my heart.  Every little bit counts and you can make a donation on line with no fuss, no muss, and no bother.  Just  click here to make a secure, online donation to further research and make the life of a child better.

We'd love to have you visit!

See ewe's soon.

Spring in Central Oregon.....

Spring in Central Oregon - If you don't like it, wait 15 minutes or drive 15 miles, it will change :-)

We still have a few openings for...........
Felt Bag - Saturday March 12th - 11:30-4pm - $35
Back by popular demand, Liz McDannold will be leading the way to turn unspun fiber into works of usable art.  Yes you can make a felt bag in one afternoon with Liz's entertaining instruction.  Great activity for a girls afternoon get away.

Shearing day Saturday March 19th - 11am
How would you like to lose 10-15 pounds in one day without diet or exercise?
Sorry, can't help you there, but you are invited to watch as our sheep go through this amazing transformation.  This is a free event with snacks available and fleeces for sale right off the sheep!    (Probably shouldn't use "snacks" and "fleece" in the same sentence, but what can I say.......We care about your fiber)

Fiber Market Day, Saturday March 26th 10-4 at the Crook County Fair grounds.
This free event is open to the public and promises to be fun for the whole family.  We will not be attending (see my next message as to why) but the shop will be open for any who would like to stop by on your way to or from the market.

Lambing - Could start as early as March 26th (see what I mean?)  Stay tuned and I'll send out birth announcements as we progress.  Here's praying for a safe and rewarding season.

Special offer on a Rose Spinning Wheel - We recently received a Rose spinning wheel from Majacraft in New Zealand.  Beautiful as she is and fabulous as she spins, she has a couple of small flaws.  These flaws do not affect the quality of her function, but would make her unique in a Rose family reunion.  Regularly priced at $885, this special Rose is available for $765 and comes with lace flyer, high speed whorl, and lazy kate.  Please contact me or come by the shop for more details.

Hope to see Ewe's soon!

We're back!

Just a quick note to let you all know I'm back.

Thanks for all your thoughts & prayers.  Looks like Papa, as far as the brain is concerned, should make a full recovery.  Other than a really bad headache and nausea, he appears to have no lasting brain damage.  As far as the rest of his almost ready to retire body, only time and physical therapy will tell.

The sheep to batt class rescheduled for this Friday, Feb 4th, 10-2pm, cost $25(includes 1/2 pound fiber) is a go and we have 2 spaces open.

The felt bag class  for Sat. Feb 12th is currently full, but I am happy to start a waiting list which will receive priority for future classes.

Emergency reschedule

Hi All,
Remember my last e-mail where I said life was a moving target and schedules change?  Well, my target just moved and I have to go out of town for a family emergency.  My step-dad, the love of my mom's life, fell from a ladder at work onto a cement floor and is in ICU with brain trauma.  Prognosis is good, but I know it will be a weight off my mom's mind if I go up to hang out with my grandfather who lives with them.

I will be closed Friday Jan 28th and the sheep 2 batt class will be rescheduled for Friday Feb. 4th 10am-2pm.  Monte will be here Saturday, Jan 29th, for your fiber needs.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Enjoying your early Spring?

Hope everyone is enjoying our spring in January!  Probably not the best thing for skiers & boarders, but my critters are enjoying the mild weather.  All the mommies to be are looking plump, but can still lay down comfortably.  AAAAh the golden trimester of pregnancy.

Sheep 2 Batt class - Friday, January 28th, 10-2 (Bring a lunch).  I have had a couple of cancellations and now have room for 2.  Just drop me an e-mail to have your name added to the list.

Felt Bag with Liz - Saturday, Feb. 12th, 12-4pm.  At this time we have space for 1 more!  If interested, send an e-mail and I will let you know if your make it in the class.  Life is a moving target and cancellations are common.

40% off table - With this mild weather, I have set up a 40% off table that will be outside the door on nice days, and I'm not sure where, on inclimate days.  Currently available are wet felting kits, the rest of my linen cotton yarn, and roving from my girls.  Be sure to check it out next time in.

Spin-in Saturdays - We continue to meet Saturdays 12-whenever to encourage and inspire.  Whether you come to spin, knit, crochet, or just sit and enjoy camaraderie, it's always an uplifting experience.

Finally, a note from Kelly Riley:
Hello All,
I have opened a 'shop' on Etsy for my fiber art, music and eventually, photography.  Please take a look (if it strikes your fancy)  and feel free to forward the link to others that may be interested.
I'll be adding new items weekly.
Thanks for looking, caring and sharing.

We Survived the Holidays...

We survived another holiday season complete with a visit from our college student!  This is supposed to be a time of celebration & joy, so why do I find it so stressful?  Don't answer that, I'm sure it's a personal problem.

Felt Bag Class - I have had a lot of interest in Liz's bag class and would like to schedule a date in February.  If interested, just e-mail a list of days (other than Wed) that work for your schedule.

Sheep 2 Batt Class - Friday January 28th 10am-4pm- This class is currently full, but I am willing to start a waiting list if you didn't make it in.  Currently signed up are (first names only to protect the innocent):
Nancy, Bobi, Connie, Sara, Marlene, & my customer visiting from the East coast who's name I thought for sure was written on my calendar, but now I find is not.  If I overlooked anyone else, please let me know.  If you need to cancel, please advise ASAP so someone else can have your space.

Last but not least - I was recently contacted by a party who is researching the opening of a new artist & antique outlet.  If interested in someplace to sell your finished products (how many hats, scarves, and gnomes does one person need?), just email us and we can send you the questionnaire!

Until next time.................
